Safety Training

ABC’s safety programs and products help members maintain safer and more productive jobsites, one of the construction industry’s most critical needs. In addition to craft training and apprenticeship resources through the Ohio Construction Institute, ABC Central Ohio offers free OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 courses throughout the year, and provides members with the Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) guide - the industry’s leading safety evaluation program.

OSHA-10 and -30:

ABC Central Ohio is committed to promoting safety in the workplace and increasing awareness of current and continuous safety issues. As part of this commitment, whether your company has one employee or twenty, the ABC Central Ohio offers member companies’ access to free OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 classes, four times a year.

MID-AMERICA OSHA:

The Mid-America OSHA Education Center is a cooperative effort of OSHA, USDOL, and the Ohio Valley Construction Education Foundation. Serving people from all areas of the United States, ABC Central Ohio has sustained our commitment to providing the most current and innovative educational programs in safety and health standards. While many organizations offer safety-training programs, Mid-America OSHA Education Center is one of only twenty-five centers in the U.S. formally authorized by OSHA to deliver OSHA courses. We provide opportunities for construction and industrial personnel to participate in OSHA authorized courses within our Region. Contract courses are also available outside the Region. Long known as a regional leader in providing hands-on practical safety training for the construction industry, Mid-America OSHA is also known for providing leading industrial safety professionals in the classroom. The Mid-America OSHA Education Center continues to offer high quality, standards based, OSHA education to employees in both the private and public sectors, including federal agencies.

Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP):

Established in 1989 by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Committee, the Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. There is no charge for this service (unless you are applying for STEP Diamond or Platinum), and your responses are strictly confidential.

  • Organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs
  • The Key Component system forms a 20-point guide to starting, updating or auditing a company-wide safety program
  • Incorporates lagging indicator safety performance data with leading indicator use and self-assessment requirements to give a full, wide ranging report on the entire nature of a company's Safety Program
  • Designed to benefit both large and small contractors alike
  • Recognition for ABC members at both National and Chapter level, with various recognition events held throughout the year
  • Gateway to Accredited Quality Contractor recognition
  • STEP Diamond and Platinum recipients eligible for ABC National Safety Excellence Award and Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) - CISE award
  • 2013 STEP data shows STEP participants beat BLS national averages in all lagging indicator performance metrics, leading to participant benefits in the pre-bid/bid process and when negotiating insurance rates.
 

Safety Leadership Conference

The EHS Today Safety Leadership Conference is designed to share best leadership and safety practices with EHS professionals hoping to achieve world-class safety at their companies. Industry experts, thought leaders and representatives from America’s Safest Companies offer attendees of the Safety Leadership Conference real-world examples of excellence in action that they can take back to their companies to achieve world-class safety leadership.

ABC has partnered with EHS Today to present the Construction Safety Track. 7 sessions feature ABC members discussing the fundamentals of world class safety programs and their continuing journeys to maintain world class performance.

Safety Best Practices

As part of ABC's mission to help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically, profitably and for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work, we offer member- and partner-developed safety resources free of charge for use by the construction industry.

Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Pledge

The Construction Coalition for a Drug- and Alcohol-Free Workplace (CCDAFW) was created with the purpose of providing companies and organizations with the resources necessary to successfully implement an effective substance abuse policy. Join your fellow industry leaders in pledging your support to work towards eliminating substance abuse-related incidents on construction jobsites!
